Phillies - NLCS champions

I started my night grabbing a drink with some co-workers/old timer old time friends. After leaving no-libs Cantina, Dos Segundos, we head to the Piazza to finish watching the game. You could hear the crowd roaring from blocks away. We turned the corner and stumbled upon all of this.

As soon as the game ended, I biked home, grabbed my camera and hopped in my car towards City Hall. The police were more than prepared this year, which I'm sure you've heard . There weren't any attempts to climb the poles, but a large crowd still managed to gather around Broad and Walnut streets.

Above Robinson luggage, I kept watching a lone cameraman that had set up wayy earlier to capture everything safely behind a wall of glass, while we all got pummeled around by over-anxious stick happy cops. I also noticed the police force had their own photographer and videographer. Maybe to teach future police how to deal w/ riots.

Last year, I don't think the horse brigade was brought in until much later in the evening, but when I arrived at City Hall last night, they were ready and waiting.

I didn't see any cars flipped or anything on fire. There were a couple girls that were screaming when they were thrown up and forced to crowd surf, but other than that and some rough housing the riot was kept under control. I did see one guy get arrested for lighting off fire-works, and then another for smoking a blunt in public. I felt bad, because the blunt smoker had come out of the safety in numbers of the crowd saying, "don't push the shorty" when the police had shoved me around a bit, and then he got arrested.

After getting pushed around a bit, I decided to call it a night and head home. I imagine the preparations for a potential 2nd World Series win are already in effect. If people want to riot this year, they're going to have to get creative.

Costume Photo shoot

My friend Kat asked me to take some photos for her for this Game Expo Steampunk Art Competition, in which she entered with a costume/character she created. Her character, named "id", used to be a nice homely girl until some mad evil scientist kills her husband and turns her into a mechanical, calculating assassin with throwing knifes. Or at least that's what I got from her quick description. Pretty awesome. Really endearingly nerdy.

Anyways, we shot it at her boyfriend's warehouse in fishtown, using the engine/gear room for an elevator that no longer works. We had to run extension cords all the way up to the roof (where the engine room was located) and we were using 3 clamp lamps. I really wish we had more time to take photos of the set up, because we jerry-rigged almost everything, using a broomstick and at one point my cell phone charm to dangle from the ceiling.

We were running really short on time, because the deadline was midnight last night and Kat needed more time to put the finishing touches on her costume. We were running around with extension cords disregarding everything going on around us, because the warehouse was also hosting a show with a band from Seattle with a full house crowd. There was also what seemed like a multi-purpose open discussion/ community forum.

I walked through the main room to overhear discussions on the relationship between bikers and motorists in Philadelphia, but then the second time I walked through they were projecting a porno and prepping to discuss the different themes and styles of pornography. I, of course, had no idea they were doing this and embarrassingly walked through obnoxiously asking the room "what the fuck are we watching". It was embarrassing, because I didn't mean to be so outright about it, but was just so shocked... just running through to grab more equipment for the shoot on the roof. Apologies to anyone we/I may have offended.

The roof of the warehouse is also where everyone goes to smoke cigarettes, so we got plenty of questions from out of towners or even the guys that lived in the warehouse. As Kat and I were shooting, we heard this loud shutter from a cell phone go off behind me and immediately freaked out. It was one of the guy's from the band from Seattle (sorry, don't know the name) and he meant no harm, but it was just a creepy thing to do.

Anyways, we had a lot of fun with this. Kat was a great model to work with and I loved the space. I just wish we had more time Thank you to Dan Hughes and the rest of the guys in the warehouse for letting us use the space and Dan for letting us use your computer. Dan, I left a note for you somewhere on your computer that I hope you don't find for another week or so, haha. I'll let you figure it out.

Vivian Girls at the Barbary

Similar to the Abe Vigoda show, I was flustered with Red Lights last night, but I'm actually pretty happy with how these turned out after some minor color correcting. I put in heavy tones of green to balance out the red lights, the blue tones didn't do much but neutralize the whites of the lights and make them less yellow. The green overlay and Cassie Ramone's overall "look" produced photos that remind me of polaroids. I didn't intend for this result, but I'm pleased none the less.

I really try not to mess with my photos as much as I can, but this was an opportunity for some good post work practice.

Here are some before and after photos to show the color correcting:

More photos and a write up coming up on Phrequency.com. I'll post the direct link once it's up.

[edit] DIRECT LINK to Phrequency Coverage of the show

Btw, my posts on this blooog of mine have been so out of order, and I apologize now, because I don't know when I'll have time to remedy that. I still need to post about lots of past shows, the phrequency block party, xmas in july, APW, MDBP and just my regular day to day. One day I will catch up, then it's onto updating my website, haha. You can check it out here, it's just tiffanyyoon.com, though there's only one photo up right now. My flickr too, has become stagnant. :(

Final Neighborhood Choir Show

This was the Neighborhood Choir's final show as a band together. They plan to collaborate with one another in the future, but the Neighborhood Choir formally as a band is no more. They played their final show at the Danger Danger Gallery in west Philly. It was a really good turnout and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. I just don't know what the hell this guy's problem was:

Abe Vigoda and Red Lights

I'm posting these photos to present a reoccurring problem that I can't seem to find a solution to. RED LIGHTS... They look great for setting a mood for stage lighting, but they're a pain when it comes to photographing bands. I hate using flash, but find I'm often left without a choice to do so, but even with a strobe the red light seeps through.

Abe Vigoda played the Barbary for an all ages show during the day, but you wouldn't of been able to tell from inside. It was super dark inside with black curtains covering the glass door and then these red lights were put on. It was a great show, and it had been almost a year since I saw these guys play in Philly at the Starlight Ballroom.

Eagles Cheerleaders in Eco-Friendly Bathing Suits. Yes, Really.

After shooting photos of Damon on Poplar, my next destination was the Prince Music Theater on Chestnut st. in Philadelphia. I was assigned by Phawker.com to shoot photos of the Eagles Cheerleaders. It was a sneak peak of a sexy bikini-clad calendar that was shot in Aruba in which all of the ladies are wearing swim suits made of eco-friendly materials.

I can't begin to explain my state of disbelief when I got the email for this assignment. I don't think Eagles, Cheerleaders and Eco-Friendly are three words that are normally thrown around together, but then again everyone's going green these days. Why not the team that bleeds it... right?

Needless to say, I was the only female photographer at this event and there were plenty of old men sitting in the very front waiting for these girls to come out half-naked from backstage. Everyone that attended the event was given a copy of the calendar, but we weren't allowed to show it to the girls, because the cover girl hadn't been revealed yet. They wanted it to be a surprise.

Sorry guys, I already gave my copy away.
